Lady Gaga is set to sing the national anthem at 2016 Superbowl

American superstar Lady Gaga is set to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl this weekend.

The news was confirmed yesterday (February 2), via an Associated Press article.

The NFL told The AP that Gaga will sing 'The Star-Spangled Banner' at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The event will see the Carolina Panthers take on the Denver Broncos.

It will be a massive month for Gaga, as the star also announced yesterday (February 2), that she will be performing a David Bowie tribute at this year's Grammy Awards on February 15.

The British legend, who was famous for such hits as: 'Fame', 'Ashes To Ashes', 'Space Oddity', 'China Girl', 'Fashion' and 'Heroes', to name just a few, died last month in January, aged 69. He'd been fighting a secret battle with cancer.

His death hit the music world hard, particularly Gaga, who was quoted as saying shortly before his death:

"I fell in love with David Bowie when I was living on the Lower East Side. I always felt that his glamor was something he was using to express a message to people that was very healing for their souls."

She is also up for an Oscar at the end of the month for a tune she co-wrote with Diane Warren, 'Til It Happens To You.'
