Lady Gaga says her songwriting is often interrupted by a "loop of negative thoughts" sparked by previous trauma.

The singer told the New York Times that music ideas in her head often get clouded by other thoughts.

The US star said: "I get blocked by my own trauma sometimes.

"The darkness, the loop of negative thoughts on repeat, clamours and interferes with the music I hear in my head.

"When I'm making music, I can hear all the parts, all the instruments. I can hear what it should be."

Gaga meanwhile will release her new album 'Joanne' on Friday (October 21).
