Lady Gaga to be honoured by SLDN

International icon Lady Gaga will be honoured at the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) Annual National Dinner tonight, March 19.

The 'Born This Way' star will receive an award for her contributions towards highlighting LGBT issues, and the organization explained in an official statement:

"SLDN will also honor international singer-songwriter Lady GaGa by presenting her with the Randy Shilts Visibility Award. Named for award-winning author Randy Shilts, this award recognizes accomplishments in bringing the plight of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) service personnel to the public’s attention."

A spokesperson for the foundation, named Aubrey Sarvis, also added:

"“Lady GaGa’s outspoken commitment to end ‘Don’t Ask’ discrimination renewed the call for repeal on the national stage and emboldened millions of young people to get engaged, take action and play a decisive role in repealing this bad law,”

"We are profoundly grateful to Lady GaGa for her passion and tireless involvement.”

The award will be collected by some of the ex-forces personnel who accompanied Gaga to the MTV VMAs last autumn as she is currently finishing recording her new album. She tweeted earlier:

"In Nebraska, finishing up record today. I'm so proud of the album: I keep dancing+drinking: metal/techno rock journey of a woman on the run."
