Lady Gaga sparks online excitement with Twitter activity

Modern pop icon Lady Gaga has excited her fans all over the globe this evening with her Twitter activity.

Her account on the social networking site has been fairly quiet since she underwent hip surgery back in February and while she updates it with the occasional retweet from fans, nothing substantial has been shared in a couple of months.

Earlier tonight (July 4), her Twitter profile photograph disappeared and has now been replaced with the default 'egg' image and an accompanying header message (shown below) reads: "This interface has been shutdown temporarily. Please check back for updates."

In addition to this, a Twitter page set up under the name of Gaga's alter-ego, Jo Calderone, was also brought back to life tonight after two tweets were posted. The first simply said "everybody needs somebody. I'm somebody. Need your body" and the second was just a smiley face emoticon.

As followers of Gaga sit and wait for news, the hashtag 'ARTPOP' has made it into the Top 10 worldwide trending topics list and fans are excitedly discussing a potential new album announcement.
