Lady Gaga encourages people not to buy 'Applause' in new video

Lady Gaga has indulged in a bit of reverse psychology in a new promotional video.

The singer can be seen standing on the set of a photoshoot in the clip, which was created in conjunction with Inez & Vinoodh.

The video contains a number of captions that encourage viewers to not buy her new single 'Applause', which was rush-released on Monday (August 12) after it was leaked.

It asks fans not to dance to the track and it suggests that Gaga has become irrelevant since releasing 'Born This Way' in 2011.

Whilst it may have been said tongue in cheek and used to reflect some of the negative views about the singer online, the video's final message - 'Stop the drama, start the music' - is something that Gaga has been trying to extol.

She recently took to Twitter to decry music bloggers and also online slagging matches between fans of 'rival' artists.
