Lady Gaga defends One Direction after VMA boos

Lady Gaga has spoken out in defence of One Direction after the boyband were reportedly booed at the MTV VMAs.

The British-Irish group won the Song of the Summer award at the Brooklyn ceremony last night (August 25) but it appears some sections of the crowd booed as they collected the gong.

The lads were later speaking to camera backstage when Lady Gaga appeared behind them.

They started talking and the 'Applause' star noted the boos and told One Direction:

"Don't you dare let those people boo you. If I did hear what I heard out there, I just want to tell you that you deserve every bit of success that you have. I want to leave right now. I don't want to stay anymore because I don't want to be in a room where people are booing."

One Direction could then be heard saying "f*ck it" and that they "don't care" if people boo them.
