Lady Gaga channels The Wizard of Oz for US TV performance

Lady Gaga has paid tribute to the Wizard of Oz in her latest high-profile performance.

The singer played live on Good Morning America today (September 9) and her slot saw the star channel the iconic film for a run-through of new single 'Applause'.

She opened the show with a quick rendition of 'Over the Rainbow' before launching into her track, which saw Gaga change outfits numerous times.

Speaking about her performance, the 'ARTPOP' star said: "I love being on stage and I love Good Morning America so much and I wanted fans to be a part of the performance because they don't normally get to do that."

Gaga added: "I think it really is an explanation for my entire career so far. It's my way of saying that all the outfits and wigs...this is my way of simulating and surviving and my way of getting to Oz and having all my dreams come true."
