Lady Gaga happy to have One Direction as chart rival

Lady Gaga says she is pleased to be battling it out with One Direction in the charts.

The US star unleashed new track 'Venus' today (October 28) whilst the British-Irish group have released the single 'Story of My Life'.

They look set to do battle in the charts but Gaga took to Twitter to praise One Direction as their fight-off hots up. She said:

"Busy day in music for releases, but happy to be aside @onedirection on those charts! Show them what your made of men! HardWork! Love, #Venus."

At the time of writing, One Direction are currently No.1 on the UK iTunes chart whilst Gaga is second.

It is the same in the US, where Justin Bieber's new track 'Recovery' also expected to be in the mix.

The 'Born This Way' star spoke to One Direction at August's MTV VMAs after they were booed by some of the crowd, giving them words of advice backstage.

Gaga meanwhile performed 'Venus' on the UK X Factor last night (October 27) alongside fellow newbie 'Do What U Want'.

Botch tracks are due to feature on her upcoming new album 'ARTPOP', which is slated for a November 11 release.
