Lady Gaga smoked 15 joints a day to numb the pain of hip injury

Lady Gaga has revealed that she was habitually smoking marijuana to help "numb" the pain of a serious hip injury.

The singer was forced to cancel a number of tour dates earlier this year to undergo surgery on her hip after performing live around the world took its toll.

The injury was a serious one and it saw Gaga bound to a wheelchair for some time.

Speaking to Attitude magazine, the 'Born This Way' star admitted to smoking up to 15 joints a day in an effort to distance herself from the hip pain. She said:

“I was smoking fifteen joints a day. It was a habit that eventually occurred when the pain got so bad with the hip. I was just numbing, numbing, numbing myself then sleeping it off, then getting on stage, killing it in pain, then getting off and smoking, smoking, smoking, not knowing what the pain was."

She added: "F**k if I know what hurts the most, you know? I would break the habit and it would sneak back in and I would break it and sneak back in."

Gaga meanwhile wrote a song called 'Mary Jane Holland' for her upcoming album 'ARTPOP', which will be released from Monday (November 11).

It includes the lyrics: "Cause I love-love, 'cause I love-love/You better than, you better than my darkest sin/Russian hookers and cheap gin".
