Lady Gaga's 'ARTPOP' expected to sell 75% less US copies than 'Born This Way'

Lady Gaga's latest album is expected to shift about 75% less units in the US than her previous effort 'Born This Way'.

The superstar singer unleashed 'ARTPOP' on Monday (November 11) and it instantly hit No.1 on iTunes charts across the globe, as well as charting at the top spot on the official UK midweek update.

Whilst it is also expected to land at No.1 in the US, Billboard reports that its estimated first week sales figures will be around 260,000.

However, this is a stark decrease in sales from 2011's 'Born This Way', which managed to sell 1.1m copies in its first seven days on sale.

It is said that around 440,000 of those sales were via an Amazon promotion which saw the record priced at 99 cents.

If Gaga's 'ARTPOP' estimate is true, then it means that she will have sold less in America than her chart rival Katy Perry's 2013 effort 'Prism'.

That album, which features the hit track 'Roar', managed to shift 286,000 in its first week.
