Gaga supports Russia Winter Olympics boycott over anti-gay laws

Lady Gaga believes countries shouldn't send their sportsmen to Russia's Winter Olympics next year because of their laws on homosexuality.

It is illegal to promote homosexuality to youths in the country and this has sparked outrage over the decision to allow Russia to host the sporting event in February 2014.

Speaking on Alan Carr's Chatty Man, Gaga supported calls to boycott the Sochi winter games, saying:

"I don’t think that we should be going to the Olympics at all. I mean I would never take anything away from their hard work, I just think it is absolutely wrong for so many countries to send money and economy in the way of a country that doesn’t support gays. They pepper spray and beat them in Russia."

Speaking meanwhile about British diver Tom Daley - who won't feature at the Winter Olympics - the 'Applause' star said:

"It made me very sad to see the pain that some of the gay kids are in in Russia, and for the world to send their finest for the Olympics…I can’t, it just feels so wrong and sad. I hate saying that, because I’m so excited for those like Tom Daley to go and to win and to rejoice."

Daley meanwhile announced recently that he is in a gay relationship, with a number of music stars supporting his decision to announce the news publicly.
