The 'Judas' hitmaker was in the country on a promotional tour, which included her first appearance on an Indian talk show, and she spoke to former actress Simi Garewal in an interview that aired on Sunday, August 21 about her passion for Bollywood and traditional food:

"I have seen a few Bollywood films and I love how theatrical they are, and that's my favorite part - that they are so surreal and full of fantasy. I love Indian food. I love spicy curry. I used to eat Indian food in New York."

Gaga also revealed that she is set to return to India in October and added that she feels "married to loneliness":

"I'm lonely and married to loneliness... But artists are supposed to be lonely. I don't have money - whatever I have I spend on my shows."

The video for the fourth single from the singer's 'Born This Way' album was released this week, which features scenes of the pop star playing a mermaid, having sex with her mad scientist lover.

Now, she has opened up about the scenes, explaining on the MTV Lady Gaga special that they were intended as a metaphor. She said:

"Well that's actually part of what the metaphor is - you can't. Sometimes in love, you can’t make it work. No matter what you do, there’s this giant boundary between you and someone else."

She added that it was part of the song’s romantic fantasy:

"That's what it’s about, perceiving in your imagination that there’s something magical inside of you that can make it work."

The 'You And I' video also has Gaga dressed as her Italian male alter-ego, Jo Calderone.

The black-and-white promo advert shows the pop star partying and dancing to 'Government Hooker' and 'Heavy Metal Lover' from her new album, 'Born This Way'.

“I really wanted it to be real, and I knew that MTV wanted it to be a true documentation of my life, and as someone that lives halfway between reality and fantasy, so do all my friends,” she told MTV. “So I felt it would be an injustice to not sort of honor them in this short film that we did.”

Lady Gaga was confirmed to open the award ceremony with a live performance at the event.

She said: “I would say that my life is one continuous performance and that in a way, all performances of mine relate to one another. You will not be disappointed.”

This year’s MTV Video Music Awards will take place on August 28 in Los Angeles.

Lady Gaga is up for four awards, including Best Female Video and Best Video With a Message for 'Born This Way' as well as Best Art Direction and Best Choreography for 'Judas.'

It was also announced this week that the singer is set to open this month's MTV Video Music Award in Los Angeles.

Lady Gaga, who is nominated for four awards at the VMAs, broke the news to fans in Times Square in New York on Thursday (August 18).

Lady Gaga joins VMA performers Adele, Bruno Mars, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and Young The Giant.

In a message on Twitter today (August 19), she said: “Thank you little monsters for making this week so memorable. If you haven't seen my new video "YOU AND I" watch here.”

Speaking to MTV News, Gaga said: "I have a really big announcement, but I thought as usual, instead of me announcing it, I'd let the Little Monsters do it for me."

On opening the ceremony, she added: "It means the world to me. I just feel really blessed every day. I have the most amazing fans."

The 'Born This Way' hitmaker is nominated for four awards on the night including: Best Female Video for 'Born This Way', Best Art Direction for 'Judas', Best Choreography for 'Judas' and Best Video With a Message for Born This Way'.

Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and Bruno Mars are also scheduled to be performing at the event, which takes place on Sunday, August 29.

Originally, the widely-anticipated video was due to be released last month.

In a brand new interview with Popdust.com, the 'Born This Way' superstar revealed that she feels the need to be constantly "public" and that her emotions must be accessible at all times:

"I learned that to be a great artist, you must be emotionally very thin. Your tears and your anger and your happiness must be just under the surface of your first layer of skin. Yes. But I like to say “emotionally thin” because it’s much more dramatic. Vulnerable to me implies only tears."

"Well, in my mind, to be a great artist you must be both private and public at all times. And yet I’m part of an industry that challenges the pop female head-on, guns a-blazing. I have to be emotionally thin but equally strong and impervious."

She added that being a female pop star with a love for theatrics almost prevents her from being "emotionally thin" as her constant physical reinvention often causes people to question who the real Lady Gaga actually is:

"The challenge is that what others view as artifice—my wigs, my makeup, my clothes, my love for show business and theater—to me, these are the paint in my palette. These things are not artifice. These things are my reality."

"But they create a boundary between me and the public that I have to fight through. People wonder, Is she for real? Is it all an act? But my question is, Since when did the act become a bad thing? Show business has always been about the act. Hasn’t it?"

The image is a black and white photograph of the 'Judas' hitmaker dressed in drag and smoking a cigarette. Gaga is currently on her 992nd tweet, but promised her Little Monsters that "the Music Video for "Yoü and I" will be my 1000th Tweet."

Details emerged recently that the 'Judas' hitmaker is set to release a book containing over 350 black and white and colour pictures that will give fans an insight into her world. Speaking to PerezHilton.com Gaga explained that she "didn't hold anything back from Terry":

"He was with me every minute, every moment. He has photographs of me waking up in the morning, brushing my teeth, in the bathroom, in the bathtub. And the thing about Terry, if you know anything about his photography, is that nothing is staged."

"What I love so much about Terry is that he thinks everything is so beautiful. I’m always, 'Oh Terry, get out of here,' and he’s like, 'Oh, it’s so beautiful, let me just shoot it.' I felt so comfortable with Terry. I love him so much. He’s a really close friend, and I feel honored that he traveled with me."

"My favorite thing, honestly, is that he loved the fans. He shot the fans the same way he shot me: with no pretense. No 'Well, she’s put out records and they haven't.' None of that. The music was all of ours. He would come backstage and he would say, 'Oh my God, the fans!' And I’d say, 'I know what you just photographed.' And he’d say, 'Baby, wow!' And then he’d film me, like, peeing in a cup and, like, ridiculous things."

Dressed in a monochrome hound's tooth ensemble, Gaga was asked about her reaction to the news that the 'Back To Black' singer had died on July 23 and she revealed she "really couldn’t speak for…48 hours straight."

"The most unfortunate thing about it all is the way that the media spins things, like we can learn things from Amy’s death. I don’t feel that Amy needed to learn any lessons. I felt that the lesson was for the world to be kinder to the superstar."

The 'Judas' pop icon also spoke about how her respect for her own father caused her to stop taking "hard drugs", "I was so embarrassed. My dad sort of called me out about it one day. I don’t do any hard drugs anymore, [but] I am a little part of the green club."

“My dad was like, ‘I know what you’re doing. Just so you know, I did it, and I lost every friend, and everything I ever had while I did it'. He shared with me his life story and his struggle, so that was what ultimately changed my life.”

She also stressed that she never wants to set a bad example for her Little Monsters and added:

"I don’t want them to do anything bad that would ever hurt them. I want them to be healthy and happy. There is a way to be recreational and be young and rebellious…and not hurt yourself.”

The pop icon will unveil the new project on November 22 when the book is published by Grand Central Publishing and it's set to feature over 350 colour and black and white pictures of the 'Judas' hitmaker. 

According to USA Today, Richardson's access to Gaga began in August 2010 with her Lollapolooza set and ended in 2011 with her much talked about performance at the Grammy awards ceremony.

She watched a couple dance to 'I Know It's Over' by Jeff Buckley and began to cry at the beauty and emotional connection of the pair's performance. Talking to them from the panel, she said:

"I'm just so proud of you. You know, you really love to dance. I know your mom's here - there were so, so many things that I did wrong when I was younger and so many things that I wish I could take back, and I felt every moment of that through your dance tonight."
