Ladyhawke cancels Oxegen and T in the Park

Ladyhawke has been forced to pull out of her set at Oxegen Festival in Ireland due to ill health. She also had to pull out of her set at T in the Park in Scotland yesterday (Sunday 12).

The singer did make it to Oxegen Festival yesterday, on her arrival she visited the medical tent to receive treatment for a fever and flu symptoms she had had the last couple of days. Over the next few hours she deteriorated to the point where she had to pull out of her show, she could barely talk - let alone sing.

Another doctor looked her over and said her symptoms were too severe to be traveling and playing shows this weekend. Due to the nature of festivals and the current fear around the flu, the doctor thought it best she rest for the weekend and not expose her band, crew and other festival goers to her bug. Pip is gutted about having to pull out of two festivals she has been looking forward to playing but says she feels "really really shit."

Ladyhawke to play a special concert

Ladyhawke will play a special concert to a winner and their friends for Cancer Research UK's skin cancer campaign, SunSmart.

The competition is entered by registering on www.skindev.com, which is the charity's campaign to bring the concern of the danger of skin cancer to the forefront of the UK's youth.

Ladyhawke is a New Zealander where the skin cancer rate is already one of the highest in the world. Skin cancer rates in the UK are on the increase.

The Cancer Research UK website, skindiv.com states: "There’s no denying it: your skin is a massive part of what makes you YOU.

So your "skindividuality" is something to be proud of and to protect – particularly in the summer.

To make the point, SunSmart – Cancer Research UK’s skin cancer awareness campaign – has created the prize of a lifetime open to all those who prize their skin.

But the twist is, there’s only one ticket and only one way to win. To get your hands on that golden ticket, you have to invite more mates than anyone else. The biggest guest list wins.

Ladyhawke is the name to look out for in 2009

In just one year, she has flown from New Zealand to the United Kingdom and straight onto the NME (New Music Express) magazine's Cool List after releasing her debut album.

Phillipa "Pip" Brown and Ladyhawke are two very different personalities. Pip Brown is a shy, soft-spoken young Kiwi woman making the difficult transition from the suburbs of New Zealand to the deep end of the London music scene. Ladyhawke, on the other hand, is the forward, sexy persona whose strong vocals and electro sounds are quickly seducing an ever-growing fan base in the British capital.

It may be surprising to some, then, that they're the same person. Ladyhawke, who's real name is Pip Brown, says : "I guess Ladyhawke is a side of myself I always wanted to have the courage to do for a long time and so it's basically me just exploring all my different ways of writing songs and improving my own abilities and seeing how far I can stretch them."

Almost a year to the day since she left her musical projects in Australia, Ladyhawke's name is being mentioned by British music pundits in the same breath as Jay-Z, and the Kings of Leon.

A busy touring schedule means she hasn't even read her critical praise - although she has heard about it. But she's taking it all in her stride. Ladyhawke say's, "There's always going to be a part of me that's going to be a bit cautious and scared. I think it's good because if I get too confident than I think the second you lose that sense of self that's when shit starts to go wrong."

Ladyhawke's latest single 'My Delirium' has reached the top 40 in the UK charts and her debut self titled album is out now. She is scheduled to tour home territory New Zealand and Australia before joining the Ting Tings on a UK tour.
