Lana Del Rey says her 'depression and insecurity' killed off her relationship

Lana Del Rey has opened up on the reasons why she broke up with her long-term boyfriend.

The singer had been dating Kassidy mainman Barrie-James O'Neill for a number of years, but she revealed in an interview earlier this year that they were no longer together.

In a new interview with Complex, the US star admitted that "depression and insecurity" on her part contributed to the downfall of their relationship.

When asked to name something valuable to her that she has destroyed, Del Rey said:

"Probably the relationship I’ve been in for the last three years. Definitely demolished that through tons of depression and insecurity. Now it’s just an untenable relationship, impossible because of my emotional instability."

When the publication said that some of the best writing comes from being "f*cked up", the singer replied:

"And I am a little f*cked up. This whole experience has f*cked me up. It’s been hard. I was in a good place when I wrote my first record because I wrote it for fun, but then, I felt like everything that went with the record was heavy. I was also trying to deal with stuff with my family. The world was heavy for a couple years. That’s why I liked Dan [Auerbach]: He was casual. It didn’t have to be so serious."
