La Roux’s Elly Jackson yesterday took to Twitter to air her grievances over the state of today’s chart music.

The 24-year-old, who is currently working on the follow-up to 2009’s self-titled debut, started a debate when she posted a message on the social networking site about Carly Jae Repsen’s current number one single.

She said: "Call me maybe" is that a lyric?? I can't tell who anyone on the radio Is anymore its just noise. Sorry but where has all the music gone?

“I am perfectly aware I will be slated for saying that but I'm genuinely worried for music.”

Responding to several of her followers’ comments about her remarks, she went onto criticise the likes of The Black Eyed Peas and Steps, before adding:

“This Is not about what I or any of you think about my music. Its about an industry that is dying and that we are letting it die.

“I've loved all your responses by the way. nice to hear the passion even if you do hate me. #bringbackthepunks"

Jackson hasn't confirmed which of Dr. Dre's tracks will feature her vocals, but divulged:

"Apparently he and The Game, this is a really hilarious image for me, were sitting watching Entourage together."

"My manager always jokes that they were eating ice cream, under blankets and having a girls night in."

La Roux writing with an "established" band

La Roux's Elly Jackson has given a revealing interview to NME where she opens up about the progress of her second album.

Jackson divulged that La Roux was writing its sophomore release with "some friends from another band" but quickly added, "I wont say who they are."

This elusive collaboration is said to be the indie band White Lies, although nothing has yet been confirmed and Jackson went on to add that the band is "established, but not like Kings Of Leon-established or anything…".

The success of La Roux's debut record has pushed Jackson's creativity and has inspired her to work as hard as possible:

"I know I'm not going to stop writing until we've got songs that can compete on the same level as 'In For The Kill' and 'Bulletproof'."

La Roux want Heaven 17 collaboration

La Roux's Elly Jackson wants to get in the studio with Heaven 17.

The 'Bulletproof' singer, who recently revealed that she would be teaming up with the 80s synthpop band, said that her and musical partner Ben Langmaid would love to work more with them after collaborating for BBC 6 Music.

She told the radio station: "We'd definitely be up for it. If you respect each other and like making music it's only ever a matter of time and schedule unfortunately, which is annoying. "For us, we've got to write our second record but we don't have any time to get into the studio until August. "We've got to get some time but if we have time we will definitely, definitely do something with Heaven 17. Ben would die to do something with them. "I just wanna hang out with them as well, they're just funny people."

Heaven 17's Glenn Gregory added: "The least that could happen is that we should work together on one song together, because I think there's something special going on with those voices and it would be really nice."

La Roux to change vocal style on new LP

La Roux singer Elly Jackson has claimed that she will change her vocal style on the duo's second album.

"The vocal style will be different, I've changed the way I sing. Not on purpose, it's just happened, seeing things I can do with my voice," she confirmed.

Jackson went on to reveal that she has expanded her musical influences, which will have an effect on the sound of the next record.

"The type of music I like now is completely different," she explained. "I don't listen to '80s music any more. Obviously I still do but not the same type of '80s music. "I've listened to a lot more Italo-disco and old funk. The influences will be very different for the next record."

"I Just frown a lot" - La Roux's Elly Jackson on her moody image

Elly Jackson has revealed that she does not enjoy some of the extras that come with making music.

The La Roux singer admitted that she prefers being in the studio.

"If I had things my way, I'd be in the studio 365 days a year. I don't want to do photoshoots and I hate making videos. The end result looks great, but it's not like that at all. It's about getting changed in a toilet and getting wee on your socks."

Jackson also believes that she has been depicted as a “moody bitch”.

She said, "I can tend to look like I'm about to kill someone. People go, 'God, you're moody'. But I'm not, genuinely. I just frown a lot."

La Roux frontwoman Elly Jackson was bullied for being a “lesbian boy”.

The chart-topping pop star was almost taken out of school because of taunts she received about her appearance.

She explained, “There was an especially dark period where I nearly had to leave my primary school after this one girl relentlessly told everyone I was a lesbian and/or a boy. Which, when you’re eight and a mixed-up tomboy, is really upsetting and confusing. I got asked out for a joke quite regularly. I just grew to hate everything about the way I looked.”

Despite the torment she endured, the ‘Bulletproof’ star admits she understands why she was singled out by some of her peers. She said: “I was big, fat, ginger, had size nine feet and looked like a boy. Nothing was really working in my favour was it?"

La Roux love Heaven 17

Chart-topping 80s throwbacks La Roux plan to work with their shoulder-padded heroes Heaven 17.

Elly Jackson, 21, and Ben Langmaid, 37, are huge fans of the Sheffield trio, who scored a massive hit with Temptation back in the day.

“Glen Gregory, the lead singer with Heaven 17, heard I was a fan and has been in touch. We email each other a lot. We finally met at an awards do recently, he’s lovely. Greg and Ben are going to meet up to have a coffee and discuss some things. We’ll see what happens.”

Apart from the potential Heaven 17 team-up, La Roux are, as a rule, against any further collaborations.

The Bulletproof star explained, "We’ve been asked to write some things for other people but I don’t think we will at the moment. I find it a bit unfocused of artists to collaborate with people so early on. It’s strange to me that some bands’ first albums are recorded with 10 different artists. You end up thinking, ‘Well, what have you actually done here?’"
