Festival-goers at the new multi-arts festival, Wilderness, were used in an ‘Experiment in Awkwardness’ by Brit-winning folk artist Laura Marling at the weekend.
 
Pairs of strangers were invited on a steamboat ride along the festival lake to a private location to arrive at a secret jetty and lead to a luxurious tent to watch a private performance from the talented singer-songwriter. Laura then silently appeared, without conversation, and played one acoustic song before abruptly leaving.
 
The experiment was conducted so that the singer can document the reactions of people to awkwardness.

Wilderness is the new multi-arts festival of music, food, theatre, literary debate and outdoor pursuits. The festival is from the producers of Secret Garden Party and Lovebox and took place on Oxfordshire’s Cornbury Estate on August 12-14.
