Lil Wayne makes history behind bars

For the first time in US chart history, an album released by an artist behind bars has made the top spot.

Lil Wayne, who is currently serving a one-year jail sentence on Rikers Island for criminal possession of a weapon, has made the number one spot with album, ‘I Am Not A Human Being’.

This marks the rapper’s second number one album, and the release reaches the top after selling 125,000 copies.

Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, was arrested in July 2007 when a loaded 40-calibre semi-automatic gun was found on his tour bus.

He admitted the offence in October but his sentencing was postponed until March 2010 while he underwent dental surgery.
