Lily Allen: "I thought I'd be a really happy mum just sitting at home... It was quite boring"

Lily Allen has revealed the reasons behind her decision to resume her music career.

The ‘Hard Out Here’ singer announced her retirement in 2009. Before releasing new material in 2013 she had two children and got married.

Speaking to France’s NRJ Radio, Lily opened up about her return to the limelight.

The 28-year-old Londoner teased:

“Why did I choose to come back? I ran out of money! No, I'm joking!”

She then explained: “I thought I'd be a really happy mum just sitting at home, playing with my kids, that was my dream. I love my children, but I'm a very impatient, busy person naturally so two babies, neither of them can talk, it was quite boring! Staying at home all day talking to people that can't talk back.”

Allen admitted that domestic life made her appreciate how much she missed her role as a pop star:

“I didn't realise how much of a creative person I am and that I need somewhere to put my creativity.”

The singer – who reached No. 1 with her cover of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ – shared that motherhood has also affected her approach to songwriting:

“When I write music now I'm conscious that I have two children and they're going to hear it. I can't be too sexy or gross or rude because that would be embarrassing for them. It's a different kind of me, but there are still the same elements.”

Lily Allen recently revealed that she used to "starve" herself before filming music videos.
