Lily Allen among music stars to pay tribute to murdered British MP Jo Cox

Lily Allen is among the music stars who have paid tribute to murdered British MP Jo Cox.

The Labour politician was shot and stabbed in her constituency of Batley and Spen on Thursday (June 16) before dying in hospital.

A 52-year-old man named in reports as Thomas Mair has been arrested.

The murder sent shockwaves around the world, with a number of musicians paying tribute to Cox.

Lily Allen wrote on Twitter: "A beautiful woman, mother, wife, campaigner, charity worker and humanitarian. I'm so so sad and sorry that this happened.

"Stop reading the Daily Mail. Start volunteering, campaigning and being an active part of our communities, TODAY. Some things we can do."

Alison Moyet meanwhile wrote: "What an appalling waste of young life. How rewarding, public service? To family, friends and colleagues of Jo Cox, I'm so sorry for your loss."

Seemingly referring to eyewitness reports that the attacker seemingly shouted 'Britain First' during the incident, Paloma Faith tweeted:

"Thinking only about Jo Cox today. It's terrifying. We must stay in the EU and Trump must not get in or this is what life will be like!!!"
