Lily Allen's version of 'Somewhere Only We Know' rises to No. 1 in UK singles chart

Lily Allen’s cover version of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ has risen to the top of the UK singles chart.

Allen’s rendition of the ballad debuted at No. 2 last week but has now leapt up to No. 1.

It was the closest chart battle of the year so far as ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ outsold Bastille’s ‘Of The Night’ by just 660 copies, which leaves Bastille at No.2.

The original 'Somewhere Only We Know' by soft-rock three-piece Keane was released in 2004 and reached No. 3 in the UK chart.

‘Somewhere Only We Know’ gives Lily Allen her third UK No. 1 following on from ‘The Fear’ in 2009 and ‘Smile’ in 2006. The London pop starlet has a further reason to celebrate as her new single ‘Hard Out Here’ has hit the No. 9 spot in this week’s chart.

Another new entry to this week’s comes from Gary Barlow with ‘Let Me Go’ at No. 3. The rest of the top five is completed by Ellie Goulding with ‘How Long Will I Love You’ dropping one place to No. 4 and ‘The Monster’ by Eminem and Rihanna also falling a single spot to No. 5.

The rest of the chart sees a trio of new entries from JLS with ‘Billion Lights’ at No. 19, Justin Bieber’s ‘PYD’ featuring R. Kelly at No. 30 and ‘Love Will Save The Day’ by Boyzone at No. 39.
