Ex-Iron Maiden frontman jailed for benefit fraud

The former frontman of Iron Maiden, Paul Di'Anno, has been given a nine-month prison sentence for claiming £45,000 in income, housing and council tax benefits whilst actively touring.

Di'Anno, real name Paul Andrews, was a member of the heavy metal band from 1978-1981, but following his departure continued with his own music career that saw him play to crowds across the world.

His original claim that a previous leap from a stage had left his leg damaged and therefore was unable to work, was proven to be false after footage appeared on YouTube of the 52-year old rocker performing live.

After being prosecuted at Salisbury Crown Court, Steven Ritter, defending, said:

"Your public persona is not relevant. Your greed has cost this country a lot of money. The claims were for a long time and for a large cost. It must be a custodial sentence."

"In 2002 you started claiming benefits when it was quite clear you were already working. It took many years to track you down. In 2007 you performed at 69 venues, in 2006 you performed 67 times."

Watch Di'Anno's recent performance at New Jersey's Stone Pony venue here:

George Michael likens Elton to Catherine Tate character

George Michael has acknowledged that people tend to become more disheartened as they age, but notes there's one star and friend in particular who is becoming downright "grumpy".

Speaking to Bauer Radio: In Demand, the 'Faith' singer joked that long-time friend Sir Elton John is getting cranky as he gets older:

"We all earn the right to get a little more grumpy as we get older - but he's getting terribly close to Nan territory, you know the Nan from Catherine Tate."

He also made clear that he was only teasing, and added:

"Elton can do no wrong because he did so much right for my life. He was one of my mentors in every way as a child who really wanted to write and sing."

"He will always have a special place regardless of our tiffs."

Slipknot reveals Donnie Steele will rejoin

Slipknot has revealed that original member Donnie Steele will rejoin this summer for the band's summer festival run.

The 'Wait And Bleed' band's bassist, Paul Gray, tragically died in 2010 so his new replacement will come as a welcome surprise to fans. The band explained the decision on their official website:

“Donnie was in the band at the very beginning, and rather than get an outsider, we thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family. Donnie was great friends with Paul and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate his memory than with someone who was there with us at the very beginning. The eight of us are looking forward to being onstage again and honoring Paul’s legacy with our families in Europe and Brazil this summer.”

Slipknot will perform at the UK's Sonisphere Festival later this year before moving on to other live shows around Europe. Watch frontman Corey Taylor explain the uncertainty surrounding a new Slipknot album here:

Broadway's 'American Idiot' to close

The Broadway musical 'American Idiot', inspired by the Green Day album of the same name, is set to close in April producers have confirmed.

According to Billboard.com, ticket sales for the show plummeted after Green Day's very own Billy Joe Armstrong left the production:

"Box office sales went from $1.3 million to $395,275 in the first week after he left."

In an effort to get the numbers back up, Armstrong will return to play his role of St. Jimmy in the show's final weeks. It will close on April 24 and will then depart on a national tour of the U.S. Watch the cast perform Green Day's classic track 'Good Riddance' here:

Westlife still can't crack the U.S

Westlife may have enjoyed the height of boy band success in the UK, but have revealed that they are still unable to crack America.

Speaking exclusively to London's newspaper, Metro, Nicky Byrne explained their difficulty after a recent radio road show tour:

"We did a promotional tour of the US in 2000. We did a local radio station roadshow in a big football stadium. There were ten acts on and about five people standing at the front barrier, and the rest of the place was empty. I just remember thinking: ‘This is a ball of s***e.'"

The 'Flying Without Wings' stars may be able to sell out arenas on their home turf, but have found that their pop sound isn't as appreciated overseas:

"Our US label sent World Of Our Own to radio stations in LA and New York without our name on it. It got a good response but when they found out who it was they wouldn’t playlist it as they weren’t supporting boy bands."

The setbacks, however, haven't dampened the band's spirits as they aren't giving up just yet:

"We all would have liked to. You never admit defeat."

Watch Westlife talk about their forthcoming tour on a recent episode of This Morning, below:

50 Cent's movie trailer hits web

An unofficial trailer has surfaced for 50 Cent's forthcoming movie, 'Things Fall Apart', after it premiered this past weekend at the Miami International Film Festival.

The film became a talking point last year after photos of the rapper, real name Curtis Jackson, surfaced in which he had lost a significant amount of weight in order to accurately portray the role. He also revealed in a previous interview with Rap Up magazine that a friend was his inspiration for the film's plot:

"My motivation for the project was my best friend, Charles Pringle. He lived across the street from me; he actually died of cancer.”

The script was written by the 'Baby By Me' star and documents the life of an NFL hopeful who tragically gets diagnosed with cancer. Watch the clip below:

"It's a daily struggle. I work out five days a week. I can't imagine not doing it."

She also stressed that looking good is always a priority:

"I wear make-up every single day; I like to wear make-up for Gavin and I don't feel energised till I've put it on, then I'm ready to go."

When asked about sex appeal, the 'It's My Life' star revealed:

"I have this real masculine-feminine thing: I'm not really that sexy – I get all made up and then I like to be a tough girl. I didn't even wear high heels until I was in my thirties! To me, [stripping off] is so boring.'

Phil Collins makes official statement

Phil Collins has given an official statement on his website that challenges recent reports of why he has decided to quit music.

The ex-Genesis star wrote:

"Many of the articles printed over the last few months have ended up painting a picture of me that is more than a little distorted."

He explained that the one and only genuine reason for his decision to step down from music as a career is his family:

"I am stopping so I can be a full time father to my two young sons on a daily basis."

Collins also made it very clear that a lot of his recent comments have been taken out of context or too seriously, and that he has no need to apologize for his success or retirement:

"The result is that I have ended up sounding like a tormented weirdo who thinks he was at the Alamo in another life, who feels very sorry for himself, and is retiring hurt because of the bad press over the years."

He ended his open message, which you can read in full on philcollins.co.uk, with:

"There's no need for the straitjacket! PC x"
