INXS have a new Irish frontman

Ciaran Gribbin from Co. Derry, Ireland has been named as the new frontman for INXS.

The singer, who has co-written songs for Madonna, Paul McCartney and Snow Patrol, met the band's keyboardist and songwriter, Andrew Farriss in Sydney at a house party and it all took off from there.

Speaking to the Irish Times, Gribbin says:

"...someone said, ‘Sing an INXS song,’ and as Andrew played the guitar, I sang 'Mystify' . We kept in touch over the next year via e-mail, etc, and six months ago I got a call out of the blue, inviting me to co-write with him in Australia”.

Since the death of Michael Hutchence in 1997, Jon Stevens and 'Rock Star: INXS' winner, J.D. Fortune have fronted the Australian band. Gribbin says that he doesn't not intend to fill the shoes of Hutchence, who once dated Kylie Minogue:

"I don’t think anyone can replace Michael Hutchence. I am here to pay my respects to him. I am aware of the history and the legacy of the band and when I walk out on that stage I hope the fans know that. I am as big a fan of Michael as everyone who will be coming to the gigs. I genuinely want to perform those older songs the way they should be performed – with passion to entertain a crowd".

Check out INXS' demo track, 'Tiny Summer', with Ciaran Gribbin on vocals and a video of INXS' classic song, 'Never Tear Us Apart':

Chris Cornell admits that he can't read music

Chris Cornell has revealed that he can't read or write music.

The singer, who fronted Soundgarden and Audioslave, has said that a mean teacher put him off of it when he was younger.

In an interview with indiewire.com, he explained:

"I learned to read music when I was 10 and did piano and took lessons. Unfortunately, I didn't really have any direction. It just felt like school. It was another subject, another course. I had kind of a mean piano teacher. I picked it up very fast and I learned to read music very fast, but I don't now at all".

As one of the biggest names from 90s grunge, he says that it hasn't affected how he writes songs because he has "learned to create music without a language" and he works both well and quickly that way.

Check out Cornell's performance of 'Black Hole Sun' with Soundgarden and 'You Know My Name', his song from 'James Bond: Casino Royale', here:

JoJo won't make any more "sugar-coated" songs

JoJo, who had a hit with 'Leave (Get Out)' as a very young teenager, has admitted that she doesn't want to release any more "sugar-coated" songs.

Speaking to Rap-Up, she explained that her forthcoming new album will be very "real":

"I paid so much attention to the subject matter and making sure it was honest and nothing was sugar-coated and that it wasn't a polite record. I just wanted it to be real."

Despite her change in lyrical direction, she added that her musical style will remain similar:

"In any type of record that I do, you're gonna hear my R&B influence, and definitely a soulful vocal delivery, but I really like to rock. Im just feeling a little angsty lately, so I really want to headbang and rock out."

Her new record, 'Jumping Trains', is expected to be released in early 2012 and you can listen to her saucy remix of Drake's 'Marvin's Room' here:

Damon Albarn pursuing solo success

Blur's frontman Damon Albarn has revealed that he's keen to release a record of independent music under his own name.

The star has produced countless albums with the 'Parklife' Brit-pop outfit and with Gorillaz, but would like to create something by himself using only his tastes and influences. He told Q magazine:

"I'd like to do a record with my own name on it. That's the next one I want to make. I don't know if I could bear to start a band from scratch again. I don't know what kind of record it will be but I've got an idea about a club that no one goes to, so maybe it will be my 'empty club culture' record."

"...A club that absolutely no one turns up to except the proprietor or a barmaid and a bouncer. I'm writing about an empty club!" he added.

He also admitted that his daughter's musical preferences help to show him what's popular at the moment and he feels that as long as he writes something about nightlife or clubs it will be fine:

"I've been trying to listen to the real coalface of popular music, which is made easier because my daughter is really into that. It's all of a type at the moment. It has to be about a club. You're either getting ready to go to the club, queuing up, in the club, or you've left the club to go to a better club. I thought it would be good to make a pop record about a club that nobody goes to."

The late King of Pop's sister, La Toya Jackson, has accused witnesses in Doctor Conrad Murray's trial of "lies and cover-ups".

"I can't wait until justice is served! It's so hard to sit in the courtroom and hear all the lies and cover-ups. Been laying here in bed for the past hour thinking about everything I've heard in court over the past two days, I'm shocked by the lies!"

Moby and Kelly Osbourne urge fans to boycott airline

'Porcelain' superstar Moby has become the latest musician to speak out against American airline company Southwest Airlines for kicking people off of its flights for ridiculous reasons.

At the start of September, Green Day's frontman Billie Joe was removed from a plane for having trousers that "sagged too low" and most recently The L Word actress Leisha Hailey was ejected for kissing her girlfriend. Moby tweeted about the situation and wrote:

"southwest air has kicked people off of their planes for: kissing, wearing baggy pants, and being overweight. so: boycott southwest airlines."

Singer and television personality Kelly Osbourne has also been spearheading the boycott campaign and told her Twitter followers that "Southwest told Kevin Smith that he was too fat to fly, Billy Joe Armstrong that his pants were to saggy to fly, also told a lady that she was too slutty 2 fly & now they've kicked Leisha Hailey of The L-Word off a flight 4 kissing her GF!"

"America is supposed to be the land of the free and the home of the brave! so why when someone tries 2 be brave & free do u knock them down," she added.

'Conrad Murray abandoned Michael when he needed help', says prosecution in Michael Jackson case

David Walgren, the prosecutor in the Michael Jackson trial which began yesterday, has said that Dr. Conrad Murray 'abandoned' his patient when he needed medical attention.

In his opening statement to the court and jury, he said:

"Conrad Murray abandoned Michael when he needed help. It was Conrad Murray's gross negligence, unskilled hands and desire to obtain this contract that led him to not only abandon his patient, but to abandon all principles of medical care."

Jackson died suddenly at the age of 50 in 2009, three weeks before his This Is It Tour and Murray is on trial for involuntary manslaughter.

Kenny Ortega, the show's choreographer, gave evidence yesterday and he said that he felt Jackson was too ill to perform.

The trial continues today in Los Angeles.

Talking to todayonline.com, the 'Poison' hitmaker said:

"I thought, if it was Alice's nightmare and he was going to meet up with the devil, who would be the one person that he would rather not have to deal with? A pop diva. And I called up Ke$ha, and she said she would love to do it."
