Alice Cooper Debuts Top of the Charts With Welcome 2 My Nightmare

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21, 2011 -- The founding father of modern horror rock music explodes onto the Billboard 200 this week landing at #22. With a music career that started more than 42 years ago, Alice Cooper sits squarely on the charts with current artists such as Lady Gaga, Primus, Bush, and Beyonce. This amazing achievement for one of music's most influential artists proves the relevance and popularity of Alice Cooper today. This debut marks Cooper's highest charting release in over 20 years, and since the incorporation of SoundScan as a method of tracking album sales. The album also debuted on SoundScan's Hard Music Albums chart at #6 and Rock Albums chart at #11.

Released on September 13, 2011, by Universal Music Enterprises, Welcome 2 My Nightmare is the long-awaited sequel to his 1975 classic Welcome to My Nightmare, From the opener, "I Am Made Of You," through the already established live favorite and first single "I'll Bite Your Face Off"(which is currently #2 at Classic Rock Radio), to the surprising duet with Ke$ha, "What Baby Wants," this album is a testament to Cooper's ability to incorporate various musical collaborations into his own unique musical style.

Welcome 2 My Nightmare is the long-awaited sequel to his 1975 classic Welcome to My Nightmare. The original album was a landmark album for Cooper. It was his first solo release, following a historic string of anthems written and recorded by the original band between 1971 and 1974, including "School's Out," "No More Mr. Nice Guy," "Elected," and "I'm Eighteen." Welcome to My Nightmare is an all-time rock classic that spawned a worldwide theatrical tour and pioneered a U.S. TV special, and certified Alice Cooper as a visionary trailblazer whose influence continues today in rock, metal, pop, punk, theatre, television, film and much more.

Recorded with longtime collaborator Bob Ezrin, who also produced the original multi-platinum album in 1975, Welcome 2 My Nightmare picks up right where they left off, with Alice trapped in his own warped mind.

Collaborators on the new album include: the original Alice Cooper members Denis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smithreunited on 3 tracks; global pop superstar Ke$ha; and legendary Alice and Lou Reed guitarist Steve Hunter, who is part of Alice's current touring band and featured prominently on the first Nightmare album.

In the midst of his "No More Mr. Nice Guy" world tour, Cooper played a special club show at the Whisky a Go-Go on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, with newest member of the band, eminent guitar prodigy Orianthi. This was the first time Cooper had been back on the Sunset Strip in 40 years. Special guests Ke$ha and Robby Krieger (the Doors) joined him on stage for a special treat for fans.

In addition to his worldwide touring schedule, Alice Cooper, who single-handedly masterminded the rock-horror genre, spins his new collection of disturbing horror imagery in "Alice Cooper: Welcome To My Nightmare," an outrageous new "Halloween Horror Nights" maze at Universal Studios Hollywood. The event launches on September 23 and continues on select nights through October 31. Inspired by Cooper's landmark concept album Welcome To My Nightmare and its sequel Welcome 2 My Nightmare, the new attraction takes guests on a terrifying trip through Alice Cooper's twisted mind, where his most famous songs, bizarre themes and demented characters collide inside a living horror movie.

Tony Bennett: Portrait of An Artist

NEW YORK, Sept. 15, 2011 -- The Morrison Hotel Gallery SoHo is thrilled to present a special press preview and reception for Tony Bennett: Portrait of An Artist, the photography of Kelsey Bennett and Josh Cheuse, in celebration of the legendary artist's new album, DUETS II (RPM/Columbia Records) on Tuesday, September 20th from 6-7 PM followed by a reception from 7-9 PM.

No one in popular American music has recorded for so long and at such a high level of excellence as Tony Bennett. With millions of records sold world-wide and platinum and gold albums to his credit, Tony Bennett has received fifteen Grammy Awards, among many other honors, and is one of only a handful of artists to have new albums charting in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and now in the first two decades of the 21st century.

In 2006, Duets: An American Classic was released. The album -- which included performances with Paul McCartney, Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Bono and others -- won three Grammy Awards. Duets became Tony's best selling CD to date achieving multi-platinum sales.

Now, with DUETS II, the new release is garnering heavy buzz and includes a roster of diverse artists including Lady Gaga,Andrea Bocelli, Willie Nelson, Aretha Franklin, Carrie Underwood, and Amy Winehouse among others. DUETS II was recorded live in the studio with Tony performing side by side with his duet partners. The recording process took Tony to Los Angeles,Nashville, NY, London and Pisa, and afforded the singer the opportunity to visit his ancestral home in the Reggio-Calabria region of Italy.

Says Tony, "What I've discovered in collaborating with these very talented young, contemporary artists on DUETS II is that the young artists really enjoy singing these wonderfully crafted songs that constitute the American Songbook. It has been a personal and professional thrill to collaborate with the artists on DUETS II and to know that a new generation has an opportunity to experience these songs."

Kelsey Bennett, granddaughter of Tony Bennett, started developing photographs in the dark room at age 12; she was taught by her grandmother. At 16, she studied at The School of Visual Arts for Photography and upon graduating high school attended Parsons School of Design. In 2005, she moved to Cambridge, Mass. where she got her first job as a photographer at an arts and entertainment paper called The Weekly Dig, where she began shooting cover images. Still living in Boston, Kelsey began commuting to New York to intern for photographers Danielle Levitt and Annie Leibovitz.

In 2010, Bennett had her first and critically acclaimed solo exhibition in NYC at The Christopher Henry Gallery, Hypnogogia. Her second solo show, On The Lam, soon followed, hailed as a compelling visual autobiography of Bennett's ongoing exploration of her own identity and a documentation of the collective desire to escape ordinary life. In July 2011, she held her second exhibition at The Christopher Henry Gallery, Black Velvet: The Godfather of Soul, the story of a James Brown impersonator. Bennett's work has also been featured at The Lu Magnus Gallery, as well as the Scope and Fountain art fairs.

In working with her grandfather on the DUETS II project, Kelsey has been able to travel the world photographing legends such as KD Lang, Amy Winehouse, Willie Nelson, and of course, Tony Bennett himself. When not on the road with her camera, Kelsey works as a baby photographer on the maternity ward. Bennett brings her camera into the hospital and is developing a series, focused on the individual families and worlds each baby is born into.

By the time Josh Cheuse was sixteen years old he was photographing bands in the New York City nightclubs that would soon become his second home. In 1981, he used the payphone at his high school to call The Clash at Electric Ladyland Studios in Manhattan to ask if he could photograph the band. What he got was an invitation to what would become a lifetime career of creating imagery for the music world.

After winning a full scholarship for photography to the School of Visual Arts in New York, Josh immediately hit the road with Big Audio Dynamite, coming back to school only to use the darkroom. He began designing merchandising and sleeve artwork and shooting video with an early portable Sony camera. He photographed his friends the Beastie Boys and documented the rising hip-hop and reggae scenes for publications such as SPIN, Rolling Stone, Musician and Time Out.

Josh produced and directed two videos for Joe Strummer and after the artist's untimely death in 2002, directed a video tribute for Joe's version of the "Redemption Song," sponsored by Hellcat Records and MTV2.

From 1993 until the present, Josh has been an art director at Sony Music, creating packaging and websites for artists including Bob Dylan, Run-DMC, Rod Stewart and Tony Bennett, while still finding time to go on the road to photograph favorite groups like Oasis, The Black Crowes, and MGMT. His first book of photography, Rockers Galore (Stussy Books), was published in 2007 and he has exhibited in Moscow, Tokyo, Paris, and at The Brooklyn Museum.

Of Tony Bennett: Portrait of An Artist, Peter Blachley, co-owner of the Morrison Hotel Gallery says, "I was born in San Franciscoand my earliest childhood musical memories are of Tony Bennett's classic song about my home town. Tony Bennett exemplifies what the true art of music represents for all of us and we are very proud that we were chosen to represent this show. Kelsey Bennett and Josh Cheuse have done an amazing job of capturing the creative essence of the recording process and the true warmth and respect that has developed between Tony and his musical guests. Both of these photographers show extraordinary skill and talent."

The show will run at the gallery's 124 Prince Street location from September 21st through October 9th.

The Morrison Hotel Gallery was founded in 2001 by Peter Blachley, a former record company executive, producer Rich Horowitz, a former independent record store owner, and Henry Diltz, a legendary music photographer. The gallery has since grown to become a major brand in fine art music photography and is respected amongst peers and artists alike.

Rolling Stones - Some Girls - Bigger Than Ever!

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14, 2011 -- Universal Music Group and The Rolling Stonesare pleased to announce the release on November 21, 2011 of the re-mastered, expanded, Super-Deluxe, Deluxe and Digital editions of Some Girls, the groundbreaking album which introduced the music of the Rolling Stones to a whole new generation of fans.

Justly considered one of the finest works by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and Ronnie Wood, Some Girls topped the US charts over three decades ago and remains the best selling album of their storied career. This new package will include some undiscovered gems that include tracks that have recently been unearthed from the Rolling Stones vaults by producer Don Was. Further details of the tracks will be unveiled at a later date.

Some Girls is the Rolling Stones' most direct and diverse collection of material, from Mick Jagger's irresistible falsetto on the four-on-the-floor filler Miss You, their eighth US number one, to the country-flavoured Far Away Eyes via the Chuck Berry meets punk snarl of Respectable. And let's not forget the sensuous, Beast Of Burden, one of Keith Richards' finest tunes, which reached number 8 on the US singles chart, the garage rock of Shattered, the album's third US Top 40 entry, and the soulful swagger of the group's version of The Temptations' Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me), another timeless offering in their canon of classic Stones Motown covers.

Following the critical praise and commercial success afforded the re-mastered, expanded editions of Exile On Main Street, which matched the chart performance of the epochal 1972 album, and returned the Rolling Stones to their rightful place at the top of the British charts in 2010, the extensive reissue of Some Girls constitutes the next step in the band's ongoing relationship with Universal Music Group. This started in April 2008 with Shine A Light, the soundtrack from the stunning concert film directed by Martin Scorsese, and has encompassed the reissues of the Rolling Stones re-mastered, post-1971 studio albums, several live albums and classic compilations, and the exhaustive box-set Singles 1971-2006 earlier this year.

Some Girls holds a special place in the history of the Rolling Stones and demonstrates why they remain one of the most thrilling and influential bands of all time. The 1978 album features a Keith Richards' classic Before They Make Me Run, a signature song he stills performs defiantly to this day. Some Girls documented Mick Jagger's love of 70's funk reflected in Miss You, the dance track that wrongfooted many people, made the club and black charts, and made it okay for other mainstream acts at the time to 'go disco'.

The 1978 album courted controversy because of Jagger's tongue-in-cheek lyrics on the title track, on Miss You and onRespectable, perceived as a retort to the punk and new wave groups who had borrowed so much attitude and copped so many anti-establishment moves from the Rolling Stones. Ironically, the furore around the elaborate Some Girls package, designed byPeter Corriston and featuring the band members in drag – a nod in the direction of the picture on their 1966 single Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow? – and likenesses of Lucille Ball, Farrah Fawcett, Raquel Welch, Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe that hadn't been legally cleared, necessitating a swift withdrawal and rethink.

Some Girls demonstrated the distinctive and definitive riffing from Keith Richards, with its abundance of unstoppable licks and majestic power chords driving the band into its brand new musical direction. This album not only defined him and his playing, but also defined a new era for the Rolling Stones, which Richards since described as a 'sense of renewal'. Some Girls marks the only other time since recording Satisfaction where Richards used an effects pedal to 'elevate' the sound.

The album cemented the position of guitarist Ronnie Wood, who had joined in 1975, and added his trademark slide and pedal steel playing to several of the album's most memorable tracks, including When The Whip Comes Down and Shattered. He also co-wrote the Shattered B-side Everything Is Turning To Gold. Some Girls also marked a move to the Pathe Marconi Studios inParis for the Glimmer Twins production team of Jagger and Richards. These factors helped what is arguably the group's most focused and dynamic album, driven by the sans pareil rhythm section of drummer Charlie Watts and bassist Bill Wyman. Some Girls featured fewer guest musicians than any Rolling Stones albums since 1971, but the contributions keyboard-player Ian McLagan, Wood's bandmate in The Faces, saxophone-player Mel Collins, and harmonica-player Sugar Blue – discovered busking on the Paris metro – made Miss You in particular sound brighter than ever.

Amongst many eagerly-awaited extras, the Super-Deluxe edition of Some Girls will include a stunning, previously unseenHelmut Newton photo session from 1978, an essay by esteemed author and journalist Anthony DeCurtis putting the album in its cultural context, a 7" single of Beast Of Burden/When The Whip Comes Down in its banned sleeve.

Thirty-three years on from its original release, the re-mastered, expanded, Super-Deluxe, Deluxe and Digital editions of Some Girls show why the 1978 album has often been hailed as the equal of Exile On Main Street. Some Girls is both a time capsule and a timeless listen. It features the band at their tightest and toughest, at their most vibrant and vital. It's an all-killer, no-filler, must-have album. It still packs a punch.

SOME GIRLS - now bigger, brighter and better than ever.

"We're four people who love making music, the way we like to make it," says Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger. "We entered the studio this year with a vision, and it all came together. We're extremely happy with the results, and can't wait to share them with our fans."
