James Vincent McMorrow on Lady Gaga: 'You shouldn't have to try so hard to prove you're an artist'

Irish singer-songwriter James Vincent McMorrow has revealed that he isn't too impressed by Lady Gaga's new record 'ARTPOP' because he feels she tried too hard to prove it is an artistic offering.

He told The Guardian newspaper that having Jeff Koons make a sculpture of her to accompany the music's release was a little too much and he didn't buy into it:

"Just be real, don't bulls**t people. It's like half the campaign of selling a record is trying to convince people that you're an artist. Well, I am an artist. This is what I do. I don't have to get Jeff Koons to make a f**king replica of me to try and convince you that it's art."

McMorrow added that Gaga's own belief in what she had created should have been enough: "If you believe in it, it's art. You don't have to convince people. And if you do, maybe you're going about it wrong."

Back in October, the 'Born This Way' icon admitted that working with Jeff Koons was inspiring and she was so proud of what they achieved together: "Please welcome Jeff Koons into our family + shower him with love for the the talents he has shared with us. A pure and genuine collaborator. I'm nervous&excited to share something that's such a piece of my heart. Something I cherish deeply. A real depiction of my mind through his."
