Drake's posthumous Aaliyah album in doubt after producer quits project

An album featuring the late Aaliyah looks to have been canned.

Drake and producer Noah Shebib previously confirmed that they were leading a project to unleash unreleased material of the singer, who passed away in a plane crash in 2001.

However, Shebib told Vibe magazine that he has cut his ties with the album after public backlash against the project.

Disapproval from Aaliyah's mother meanwhile was the final straw. He said:

"The world reacting to Drake's involvement so negatively, I just wanted nothing to do with it. That was a very sad experience for me. I was naïve to the politics surrounding Aaliyah's legacy...Ultimately, I wasn't comfortable and didn't like the stigma...[Aaliyah's] mother saying 'I don't want this out' was enough for me. I walked away very quickly."

The album was due to be released by Blackground, a label run by Aaliyah's cousin Jomo Hankerson.
