Kaiser Chiefs' Ricky Wilson on not selling enough records: 'It's nobody's fault but your own'

Rocker Ricky Wilson, of Kaiser Chiefs fame, has opened up about his career in the music industry and explained that he believes not achieving high numbers of record sales is his own fault.

Speaking to The Guardian during the launch event for the new season of 'The Voice', on which he will now be a mentor, Wilson confessed that it's hard to put yourself out there and not see a significant commercial return:

"Everyone wants to blame someone else for selling less records."

"But it's nobody's fault but yours. It's down to you to write better songs, or deliver them in a better way."

He added that he was approached to be a judge on the vocal talent show two years ago, but didn't want to take the role because he was dubious of the good that could really come from doing something like that:

"At the time, I was a bit snobby about those kind of shows. But fact is, Saturday night, I'm not out in some bar in Hoxton. I'm watching the X Factor. I don't think I'd be a very good songwriter if I couldn't enjoy things that 99% of the UK enjoys."
