Laura Mvula: 'Intimate settings suit my music more than big venues'

Singer Laura Mvula has revealed that she much prefers playing live shows in intimate settings because it's better suited to her sound.

She performed at London's Kensington Roof Gardens on Thursday (January 16) and explained that smaller settings suit her material far better than bigger gigs do:

"Getting the chance to sing to such a close and intimate crowd is amazing for me and my band as it suits my music perfectly."

Meanwhile, Mvula has also been nominated for a prize at the 2014 BRIT Awards and is up for Best British Female Solo Artist, for which she will go head-to-head with Jessie J and Ellie Goulding. Speaking about her nod, she added:

"It's only January and I've already been nominated for a BRIT Award and performed at a Priceless gig. Safe to say 2014 looks like it's going to be another whirlwind year."
