Kian Egan on solo career: 'It feels right and it's an amazing opportunity'

Former Westlife star Kian Egan has opened up about the fact that he's about to release his debut solo album and confessed that he was overwhelmed by the musical opportunity because the offers he had been getting were mostly TV based.

Speaking to The Ryan Tubridy Show on 2fm recently, he explained that when he was asked to work on solo material he couldn't say no:

"Everything seemed to be heading more in the TV direction which is what I was really happy [about]… and I was really enjoying. When the opportunity came about I thought 'I've gotta go for it'. What an amazing opportunity… to make your own album and have a major record label [Warner Bros.] get behind you and put it out there."

"It's all just happened really, really, really fast… but here we are, the day has come for it to be played for the first time in Ireland and it's very exciting."

Referring to his debut solo single, which is a cover of Daughtry's 'Home', he added that it was a song he loved so he wanted to record his own version of it: "It's not very well known on this side of the world, I don't think. It was a massive hit in America a few years ago for a band called Daughtry. The reason why this was chosen was that it struck a nerve with me every time I was listening to my iPhone or my iPod."

"It feels right. It sounds the way I want it to sound for people to hear me for the first time. That's the other thing for me, an awful lot of people have never heard me sing a full song, they've heard snippets here and there."

His debut solo album, also entitled 'Home', will be officially released on March 14.
