Michael Jackson fans win €1 from court for emotional damage from singer's death

Five Michael Jackson fans have been given €1 each by a French court as a result of of the "emotional damage" they received from the singer's death.

The King of Pop passed away in 2009 after an overdose of acute propofol at the hands of doctor Conrad Murray.

34 fans launched a case in France to seek damages for the suffering they underwent following Jackson's death.

Five of these fans - two from France, two from Switzerland and one from Belgium - have now been awarded a symbolic payout of €1 after proving their poor health with "witness statements and medical certificates".

Legal man Emmanuel Ludot commented: "As far as I know this is the first time in the world that the notion of emotional damage in connection with a pop star has been recognised. They have been subjected to ridicule and I am delighted their suffering has been taken seriously by the law."
