Elbow on course to land first UK No.1 album

Elbow could bag their first ever UK No.1 album this weekend.

The Official Charts Company have confirmed in their midweek update today (March 12) that their new effort 'The Take Off and Landing of Everything' is currently No.1 in the UK albums chart.

It is only 6,500 copies ahead of its nearest placed rival, however, which comes in the shape of Paloma Faith's fellow new entry 'A Perfect Contradiction'.

Last week's No.1 - Pharrell's 'G I R L' - slips to No.3 whilst Arctic Monkeys' monolithic 'AM' rests at No.4.

Completing the top five on the midweek update is Metronomy's new effort 'Love Letters'.

Metal outfit Architects meanwhile look set to bag their highest chart position yet with their new album 'Lost Forever/Lost Together' (No. 13).
