Backstreet Boys and Avril Lavigne for joint tour

Earlier today, 'I Want It That Way', hitmakers Backstreet Boys made a special announcement on 'Good Morning America' about a new leg of north American tour dates that will be supported by Canadian songstress Avril Lavigne.

Member Brian Littrell explained that they can't wait to hit the road with Lavigne: "We really wanted to put together a great show and do our best to give everyone their money's worth. Avril is an unbelievably talented artist who's a perfect fit to make these shows extra special for our fans."

Nick Carter added that they're overwhelmed by fans' excitement over the announcement: "This has been an amazing year! So much has happened and it just keeps on going. It's amazing for all five of us to see and feel this kind of response! How can we not come back and show our incredible fans this show?!"

The 'Sk8er Boi' rocker took to her official Twitter page earlier this afternoon (March 14) and admitted that she's looking forward to the north American run of dates: "So excited to be joining the @BackstreetBoys on the US leg of their In A World Like This tour!"

She will join the tour from Thursday, May 22, when it stops at Seattle's WaMu Theater, and will perform in support of the iconic boyband until Sunday, June 22 when the tour comes to a close in New York at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater.
