Brian McFadden thinks One Direction fans are "intense"

Brian McFadden believes One Direction fans are more "intense" than Westlife's.

The Irishman was a part of the popular group during their rise to fame in the 1990s and 2000s and he encountered some fevered fans.

However, he told Digital Spy that he thinks One Direction's fanbase take it to the next level when it comes to intensity.

Referring to when he apparently reckoned Niall Horan would be the first to leave One Direction, McFadden said:

"There were a few disgruntled fans who didn't like the fact that I was asked who in One Direction reminded me of myself and I said Niall because he was Irish."

"Obviously they weren't happy that I was insinuating that he was gonna leave the band and started panicking. Westlife fans weren't as bad. I think the 1D fans can be intense. I think our fans are a little bit more laid back."

Alluding to his former bandmate Kian Egan's recent remarks about the "poor" sales figures of the 'Best Song Ever' group, McFadden added: "If One Direction were having the success they're having now back in the Westlife days they probably would have sold 100m albums by now.

"If you look at how massive One Direction are, they're one of the best-selling acts in the world, if not the best-selling act, and yet they're only selling a fraction of what bands like the Backstreet Boys and Ricky Martin and 'N Sync were selling back then...so I understand what Kian was saying. I'm sure One Direction are pretty happy anyway."
