Pharrell Williams says Hans Zimmer helped to make his music "as close to magic as it could be"

Pharrell Williams has been discussing his experience of working with legendary film composer Hans Zimmer.

The ‘Happy’ hit-maker has teamed up with Zimmer for the soundtrack of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’.

Whilst Pharrell has previously provided the score for the ‘Despicable Me’ movies, Hans Zimmer has composed music for hundreds of motion pictures including ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘Gladiator’ and ‘The Lion King’.

The pair have both been working on the Spider-Man soundtrack with Pharrell contributing a song titled ‘It’s On Again’ that will feature vocals by Alicia Keys and a rap from Kendrick Lamar.

In an interview with Rolling Stone Pharrell Williams discussed the effect Hans Zimmer has had on his own music.

Pharrell explained: “He’s a big brother. There’s actually an educational side to our friendship.”

He went on: “Before, I was basically getting my jollies from aesthetic, shallow pleasures because it was all surface. When I understood the importance of purpose and the gravitas in intention, that’s when my music started to become as close to magic as it could be. When you dig into his scores, they’re magical.”

Speaking specifically about scoring the new Spider-Man film Pharrell said: “The air began to sing. When the actors and actresses were not speaking, we got to actually tell some of the story. We were able to verbalize facial gestures.”

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ will be released in the UK on April 18 and in the US on May 2.
