Sam Bailey tops UK chart with fastest selling album of 2014

X Factor winner Sam Bailey has shot to No. 1 with her debut album ‘The Power Of Love’.

Sam Bailey is the first X Factor victor to have their debut album go straight to the top of the chart since Alexandra Burke in 2009.

Sales have been brisk for Sam Bailey as ‘The Power Of Love’ has sold almost 73,000 copies in the past seven days, making it the fastest-selling artist album of the year so far. The previous holder of this title was Pharrell Williams after his first week sales of ‘G I R L’ totalled 69,000.

Last week’s No. 1 album, ‘Symphonica’, by George Michael has now fallen to No. 2.

The rest of this week’s top five is made up by Wilko Johnson and Roger Daltrey new in at No. 3 with ‘Going Back Home’, the aforementioned ‘G I R L’ by Pharrell Williams is down one to No. 4 and John Legend’s ‘Love In The Future’ is up two to No. 5.

New entries to the rest of the top 40 come from Sir Elton John with the 40th anniversary edition of ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ at No. 12, Shakira’s self-titled album at No. 14, a My Chemical Romance greatest hits collection – titled ‘My Death Never Stop You’ – at No. 15, Foster The People at No. 26 with ‘Supermodel’, ‘The Very Best Of The Everly Brothers’ at No. 28, ‘The Classics’ by Tony Bennett at No. 35, Magnum’s ‘Escape From The Shadow Garden’ at No. 35 and Jimi Goodwin‘s ‘Odludek’ at No. 39.
