New Michael Jackson album to be released in May

A new posthumous Michael Jackson will be released later this year.

'XSCAPE', curated by L.A. Reid, will feature unreleased songs recorded by the late singer and it will hit shelves on May 13.

The record will feature eight songs which have been "contemporised" by producers such as Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Jerome 'Jroc' Harmon and John McClain.

In a statement, Reid commented: "Modern music and artistry would look and sound completely different if not for the groundbreaking contributions Michael Jackson gifted to the world.

"Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with. We are extremely proud and honoured to present this music to the world."

Epic Records supremo Reid was granted access to Jackson's archives and selected unreleased songs to give to current producers to work on. The title track saw original producer Rodney Jerkins take the helm.

John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson, added: "Michael was always on the cutting edge and was constantly reaching out to new producers, looking for new sounds. He was always relevant and current. These tracks, in many ways, capture that spirit. We thank L.A. Reid for his vision.”

The record will be the second album to be released after Jackson's 2009 death, following on from 2010's 'Michael'.
