Musician replaces Justin Bieber CDs in Los Angeles with his own album

A musician planted 5,000 copies of his own album inside fake Justin Bieber CDs in a number of shops on April Fools' Day (April 1).

Paz took to record stores in Los Angeles earlier this week to place reproduced copies of what appeared to be Bieber's 'Believe' album containing his own record 'From the Bottom of My Heart to the Top of Your Lungs'.

The CDs looked like Bieber's from the outside, but inside contained Paz's CD and some artwork.

He tried the stunt in massive stores such as Best Buy and Walmart and the Associated Press bought the planted copies when they investigated if the stunt would work.

Those versions went through the scanner as if it was Bieber's 'Believe' - but inside the package was Paz's work.

Speaking to Billboard, the prankster said: "We were meticulous. We paid a lot of attention to detail because we wanted these to stay up on shelves as long as possible."

Talking about why he did the stunt, the musician said: "The general idea is that retail stores make it almost impossible for independent musicians to get their music in there. I've always believed that retail stores can be the best outlets and ambassadors for independent music. They just choose not to be and sell the same recycled [expletive]. We thought if they're going to lock their doors to independent musicians, we're just going to knock them down and get our music in there."
