OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder: 'When I write for Beyoncé or Adele I try to get into their heads'

'Counting Stars' hitmaker Ryan Tedder has explained that he approaches songwriting in different ways depending on whether the project is for his band or for another recording artist.

He admitted to Ryan Seacrest that switching from writing for OneRepublic to penning tracks for other artists isn't too tricky because he can separate both kinds of creativity in his head and move forward with different mindsets:

"I literally go to a different part of my brain. When I’m writing for OneRepublic, it’s 100% personal and it’s me writing for us… and when I’m writing for someone else, it almost feels like a game."

Tedder added that when he's working with stars such as Adele or Beyoncé, and is writing hits for them, he tries to get into their heads and write from their perspectives: "I’m trying to generally channel what it is they’re going through. Specifically Beyonce or Adele or whoever the artist is, I’m really trying to tap into their brain."
