The likes of Lorde and Katy Perry have landed a number of nominations for this year's Billboard Music Awards.

The nominees for the awards ceremony, which is taking place in Las Vegas on May 18, were announced today (April 9).

Lorde is nominated for twelve gongs in total, including Top Female Artist and Top Hot 100 Artist.

Imagine Dragons also have twelve, whilst Justin Timberlake has secured eleven and Katy Perry ten.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have bagged eight nominations, whilst Miley Cyrus follows suit with a slew of nods.

Billboard say that their nominees are "based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital singles sales, radio airplay, touring, streaming and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, VEVO, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music".

Jason Derulo meanwhile has been announced as one of the event's performers.
