5 Seconds Of Summer offer advice to aspiring musicians: 'People love real people so be yourself'

Australian pop-rockers 5 Seconds Of Summer have offered some words of wisdom to fans who want to follow in their footsteps and make a name for themselves in the music world.

During a new interview with The Big Music Project, the lads opened up about how to try and make it in the music industry and they also spoke about the importance of having strong people around them on tour.

Member Ashton Irwin explained that the best way to carve out a career in the industry is to retain artistic integrity and be true to yourself and your dream at all times:

"Our tips for anyone who wants to get into the industry would be determination... dedication. If you love it, you keep going at it. Be original - be yourself. People love real people so it's important that you stay true to what you do."

When the guys were asked who makes their lives easier on tour, they all admitted that having a great crew makes all the difference and helps to keep them grounded. Calum Hood said: "Some of the hidden heroes when we go on tour - like Nigel, our guitar tech - there's a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes that people don't see."

Drummer Irwin added: "As people, to have really good, strong people around you when you're touring - just helps to keep you stay grounded."

Earlier this week, the lads confessed that they often struggle with homesickness and member Hood explained that he keeps in touch with his mother on a daily basis to ask for advice: "It was hard at first, but once you start getting busy... you don't forget about it, but it gets easier. I still text my mum everyday, like "how do you cook pasta?" because I still don't know..!"
