Kodaline: 'We didn't expect success in the USA'

Dublin-based Irish rock band Kodaline have revealed that breaking the American music market came as such a surprise to them because they didn't expect it at all.

Guitarist Mark Prendergrast explained to BANG Showbiz that finding success stateside was overwhelming as they never thought it was something that would happen so didn't hold out a lot of hope for it, and that their 'American Idol' performance really helped them to raise their U.S. profile:

"I didn't think [breaking America] was that important to us when we started out, because it seemed unrealistic. But when we started touring over there, you kind of fall in love with it. You're in a different state and city every night."

"We only found out we got 'American Idol' about two weeks before, so we were already in America, it was a huge deal. It got our name out there a lot more. Our Twitter followers definitely went up, [the show] went out to about 15million people."

Prendergrast also recently confessed that his band penned a love song with One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles: "Harry Styles came to two of our shows and he's a big fan and we ended up going to the studio and writing a song together. He's a really good lad. Very funny and a very good writer and singer. It was an unrequited love song but we're not sure what we're doing with it yet, but it's there."
