Beverley Knight: 'Nudity trumps talent with today's music stars'

41-year-old songstress Beverley Knight has revealed that she's a little disappointed by the current stars of music who seem to be relying more on nudity than their genuine talent.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the modern emphasis on stripping off and letting the visuals replace the importance of the vocals, Knight explained that covering up is underrated:

"Quite clearly [stripping off on stage] is not for me. Nobody wants to see my bits all hanging out. I think it's a disappointing state of affairs when what you do is constantly trumped by the visual, because eventually that's all you become known for."

"I couldn't imagine myself become anything like that. When I was younger, I was so far the other way I needed someone to go, 'Bev, lighten up'. I was so conscious of not being trivialised or seen as an artist that was there for titillation, I was almost too serious."

Knight went on to add: "The pendulum has swung so far in the other direction now. It's one thing being sexy and fearsome, but the constant barrage of no clothes, less clothes, nothing at all - no."
