Bob Geldof is set to marry his girlfriend Jeanne Marine, according to her friend Jerry Hall.

The musician has endured an extremely tough time recently after his daughter Peaches was found dead in early April.

It is expected that the inquest will confirm today (May 1) that her death was the result of a heroin overdose.

However, model Jerry Hall has told The Daily Mail that her friend and French actress Jeanne Marine is engaged to Bob Geldof after going out for 18 years.

She said: "Bob has proposed. She is over the moon. Jeanne Marine has been a rock and a tower of strength over this. I’m so excited for her I am bursting to tell someone. Bob and Jeanne have been through hell, but they are determined something positive will come out of it. After all the sadness, we need something to focus on which will bring joy and light."

Hall added: "I’ve just got back from Texas and accompanied Jeanne to the funeral. It was, of course, terribly sad, but she told me that Bob had asked her to marry him out of the blue. I’m so happy for her. It makes you realise we all have to value what we have."

Geldof married his first wife Paula Yates in June 1986, but they divorced in 1996. Yates ultimately died in 2000 as the result of an accidental heroin overdose.
