Sum 41's Deryck Whibley hospitalised: 'Doctors say if I have one more drink I'll die'

Deryck Whibley, frontman of Sum 41, has revealed that the reason he has been so quiet lately is because he has been in hospital after collapsing from excessive and continued alcohol intake.

In a shocking post entitled 'Rock Bottom', which he accompanied with photographs (pictued left) and was shared via his official website, the 'Fat Lip' hitmaker explained that he really fell ill at the hands of alcohol and was hospitalised because his condition was so serious:

"It’s Deryck here. Sorry I’ve been so MIA lately, but I’ve been very sick in the hospital for a month, and was pretty sick for a few weeks leading up to my trip to the hospital. The reason I got so sick is from all the hard boozing I’ve been doing over the years. It finally caught up to me. I was drinking hard every day, until one night, I was sitting at home, poured myself another drink around midnight and was about to watch a movie when all of a sudden I didn’t feel so good. I then collapsed to the ground unconscious."

Whibley, who was married to Avril Lavigne, then concluded that this incident has shocked him so much that he has finally realised how dangerous alcohol truly is: "My liver and kidneys collapsed on me. Needless to say it scared me straight. I finally realised I can’t drink anymore. If I have one drink the docs say I will die. I’m not preaching or anything but just always drink responsibly. I didn’t, and look where that got me."

He went on to add that he feels inspired to write new music and hopes to put this new lease of creativity into motion soon: "I have my passion and inspiration back for writing music. I already have a few song ideas for new songs. Soon it will be time to start making an album and getting back to touring again. See you all sometime."
