John Legend gives inspiring commencement speech at UPennOn Monday, May 19 crooner John Legend returned to his alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania, and addressed graduating students in a heartfelt and inspirational commencement speech. In the speech, the hitmaker focused on the feelings any graduate might experience - fear and anxiety - and related to them that finding something he loved helped him to alleviate the sensation of 'being lost': "I fell in love with music at a very young age. We're taught when we're young that the opposite of love is hate, but it's not. Hate is a byproduct, hate is a result. Being a hater isn't cool -- nobody wants that. But hate comes from one thing: fear. Fear is the opposite of love." He also changed the lyrics of his hit single 'All Of Me' and made a little joke, singing: "'All of you/Are so over me/You're tired of hearing that I went to Penn/Why'd they bring him back again?' That was my humblebrag way of saying that I have the biggest song in the country right now." Watch Legend's full commencement speech here:
