Ed Sheeran's 'Sing' puppet designers: 'It was meant to be an anti-Ed'

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran recently unveiled the exciting music video for new single 'Sing' and it features a puppet likeness of the superstar, which was apparently supposed to be the 'anti-Ed'.

Puppet designers Steve Troop and BJ Guyer of Puppet Design Studios revealed to MTV News that the video turned out a little differently that originally planned:

"He really wanted him to be the anti-Ed. So we pulled away from all that, and created this character that was kind of the opposite of Ed so he was more physical, he moves a lot more, his mannerisms are a lot more high energy, where Ed is more low-energy and more approachable.”

Lead designer, Troop, added: "There was constant input from Ed’s staff as to the look of the character. I did something like 150 drawings of Ed that eventually honed in on the look of the puppet. We also got extensive photo references of his tattoos for me to hand draw onto the finished puppet with a Sharpie. There’s a fine line between being a caricature of someone and being a parody of someone — but when you hit it, everyone knows it.”

Sheeran took to his official Twitter page earlier today (May 23) and confessed that he couldn't believe the video had attracted so many hits so quickly: "Sing video has had 2.5 million views in 22 hours on Facebook. Which is awesome as hell. Gonna put the YouTube link up in a couple of hours x."
