Sam Smith holds onto No.1 position in the UK midweek albums chart update

British singer Sam Smith has managed to maintain his No.1 position on the Official UK Albums Chart this afternoon with his impressive debut offering, 'In The Lonely Hour'.

The rising star is still holding off tough competition from Coldplay with their new record 'Ghost Stories' (No.2), which was a previous chart-topper, and Smith is currently around 2,000 copies ahead according to the Official Charts Company.

Clean Bandit's debut album, 'New Eyes', makes an exciting entry at No.3, Paul Weller’s 'More Modern Classics' is new in at No.8, and The Midnight Beast have made an appearance at No.32 with their second studio album, 'Shtick Heads'.

Elsewhere on the Top 40, Led Zeppelin are new in at No.4 with their self-titled debut album, Manchester’s James are at No.5 with 'La Petite Mort', and Kings Of Leon’s 2003 debut, 'Youth & Young Manhood', is a re-entry at No.38.
