Kodaline team with suicide prevention charity: 'We've all been through difficult times'

Irish group Kodaline have joined forces with suicide prevention charity Console to help troubled youngsters.

They made the decision to support the Ireland-based organisation after learning that there has been a 32% spike in phone calls coming through on its emergency helpline over the past year, which is a startling increase.

The band's frontman, Steve Garrigan, explained in a statement that it's important to try and open up the things that trouble us in order to stop them becoming overwhelming and all-consuming:

"Most of us don't live in a perfect world. We have all been through difficult times, and we want people to know that Console is there if they are having dark days. Console's free helpline is there 24/7, and there is no shame in talking about your worries - we all have them and we all need support sometimes."

Garrigan, meanwhile, recently told MTV News that Kodaline went into the studio with One Direction's Harry Styles where they worked on a song together: "He's actually a really good writer. We didn't really know what to expect, but he's really good - great lyrics and he means what he writes. It was a lot of fun. It's a really cool song. We're not really sure what we're doing with it at the moment."
