Jesse McCartney on long hiatus: 'I needed a clear vision and not just release music for the sake of it'

Singer Jesse McCartney is about to burst back onto the music scene with a brand new album, but he has now opened up about his decision to take a long break from recording new material.

During a new interview with NYC radio station Z100, the 'How Do You Sleep?' heartthrob revealed what he spent his lengthy break from music doing and why he decided to release a new record: "I took a lot of time off, like you said, to do some cool acting projects and I lived in South Carolina for six months for a season of 'Army Wives' and went to Hungary to shoot a film."

"With music, I felt it was important that I had a clear vision and to not put something out just to put something out. It had been long enough time [between albums] anyway, so I had to get it perfect. I did some writing, searching and testing of songs before I landed in the studio with Hot Chelle Rae, and we did a song called 'Back Together.' It was meant for their album, but it didn't work for them in the end. But that's the type of music that I want to do, that is the template for this album. For me, I was really writing and taking my time with what I wanted to say."

McCartney's forthcoming new album, 'In Technicolor', is due to be officially released later this summer on July 22 and fans can pre-order the offering now.
