Sam Smith begins work on second album: 'I started writing for the first time the other day'

Earlier today (June 16), singer Sam Smith appeared on 'Good Morning America' and hosted a question and answer session with his followers before doing a live performance.

During the fan chat, the rising star was asked if he has started working on the follow-up to his debut album, 'In The Lonely Hour', and explained that he wrapped the first writing session recently: "@YTFenna @GMA I started writing for the first time the other day. I'm very excited #SAMSMITHGMA."

The 'Lay Me Down' hitmaker then shared the best advice given to him by a fellow celebrity, which he revealed as "don't let it swallow you up". Someone then quizzed him on how best to react to bullies, and Smith replied: "Ignore. Rise above it. Focus on you #SAMSMITHGMA."

Speaking to Capital FM in London a few weeks ago, Smith confessed that he finds it tricky to write 'happy songs': "I don't know how to write a happy song! There's actually two that are on the album that are quite happy! I challenge myself, it's important for me to challenge myself and take risks. When I was writing this album, I didn't want to write sad songs."
