Naughty Boy confirms Emeli Sandé and Zayn Malik writing session for One Direction

Naughty Boy has confirmed that he wrote a song with Emeli Sandé and Zayn Malik for One Direction's next album.

The boyband have regularly worked with outside writers and the 'La La La' producer had been pictured in the studio with Malik.

Speaking to the Press Association, Naughty Boy revealed that Emeli Sandé was also part of their writing sessions, with Syco boss Simon Cowell especially keen on the tune.

He said: "I felt like I wouldn't have added anything to that sound. With this song, it was made for them. I've written a song for them with Emeli Sande and Zayn, and they are going to record that. I think it's Simon's favourite song as well, so I've been told.

"I think with this album, they can afford to be a bit more grown-up and more mature. They're boys turning into men so it's a good time for Naughty Boy to put a stamp on their sound. It's not a crazy step away from what you'd expect from One Direction but it's subtle enough."

Naughty Boy meanwhile added that he hooked up with Malik after finding common ground with the 'Kiss You' singer:

"I met him at the Brits and we both have similar backgrounds. We're both Pakistani, grew up in similar surroundings and culture, and it's good to meet someone you're on a level with. I'd previously turned down working with One Direction but knowing Zayn and hearing him sing - he's also doing some writing - I thought, 'This guy's actually really talented'."
